I love anything to do with
antiques, especially antique furniture. Nothing is more exciting than browsing an antique store and finding an amazing antique.
One of my favorite dealers of
antique furniture is Newel. Newel is located in New York city and in my humble opinion, is one of the world's leader's in antique furniture. The inventory is of the highest quality and quite extensive.
If you happen to be in New York, I highly…

I just read a post by
Henrietta, of the RED INK DIARY blog.
She writes about "
Selection Buyers Expect on eBay” being the latest eBay catch phrase, then she asks:

In an effort to maintain a transparent organization, I will post "progress reports" to the group alerting you to the "goings on" of the steering committee. Note that we have decided to maintain a somewhat open membership for the steering committee so if you have an interest in participating (and yes, there is work involved), please contact me.
Currently, the steering committee is tackling a number of projects, most significantly is the development of a "stand alone" Web site (to reside at www.a…

Advertising Thermometers
Do these big store thermometers bring back memories? All of them were given away by advertisers to soda fountains, grocery stores, bars, shoe stores, drugstores or hardware stores. The shop-owners hung the thermometers outdoors, where customers could eye the ads and learn how warm or cold it was—a helpful bit of information in the days before up-to-the-minute TV and Internet weather reports.
More than 200 advertising thermometers made between 1920 and 1970 sold at a fa…

I've received a number of e-mails from
Antique, Vintage & Collectibles Online Sellers Association members on a variety of topics that are related to the professionalism of our group. As a "professional organization", it's important that each member act accordingly when posting or sharing information on "my pages" as well as extend common courtesies to other members during our mutual interactions.
Although I want to maintain a site that is reflective of o…

Just in case you don’t know, I wanted to share that AVCOSA has reached 100 members! I’m so gratified to know that there is a large group of online sellers who share our vision of responsible selling online in the antiques, vintage and collectibles product categories.
Although we’ve only been at this a couple of weeks, I hope that you are finding the value of AVCOSA. I know that many of us have been busy networking with others, sharing resources and information, and expressing our points-of-view…

Antiques
The definition of antique varies from source to source, product to product and year to year. But, some time-tested definitions of antique deserve consideration:
* An item which is at least 50 to 100 years old and is collected or desirable due to rarity, condition, utility, or some other unique feature. Motor vehicles, tools and other items subject to vigorous use in contrast, may be considered antiques in the U.S. if older than 25 years, and some electronic gadgets of more recent vint…

Following is a blog post I wrote some time ago to educate about the differences between antique and vintage. The reason I am sharing it with the group is two-fold: 1) do you agree/disagree and why/why not? I'd like to see us develop this definition further to provide as a service to the general population and 2) I'd like to start a conversation about the differences in selling antiques versus vintage items. I understand there are differences so let's define and discuss.

Okay, to be honest, we're not official until I file the "official documentation" but we are well on our way! How fitting that we form AVCOSA (pronounced av-cosa) at the beginning of a new year! What for most is a time of reflection, for those of us in the "trenches" of online selling it's a time of researching, planning and ultimately, TAKING ACTION!
Since sales typically slow at this time of the year, it's the perfect opportunity to re-focus on your antiques, vintage and collectibles business…
