I've been selling on line for 10 years. Exclusively on line for about 6 years. I don't know my customer base. And, I think they like it that way. I think that a lot of people that shop on the internet enjoy the anonymity. They feel secure that no on…

How does all of that apply to Antiques and Vintage Collectibles? I didn't know I could put a bar code on my depression glass pieces...Sorry, but I'm with Vince. This seems way out there in techno land. And I know everyone is tired of hearing this, I…

I hesitated to jump into this discussion because I have no intention of ever starting a website where I sell my items directly. I have the greatest respect for those of you who operate a B&M and are branching out and embracing the internet. As in r…

Vince Amen. I don't handle it. I don't buy those great things that I know many collectors are looking for, simply because I realize the risk I'm taking by offering them for sale. Lead in jewelry. I had my first question on Ruby Lane. "Can you tell…

If I don't do this correctly, please let me know. I'm guessing first our avatar and then a link to our site? We have been Antiques and Vintage Collectibles Dealers for almost 30 years. We love to shop for the perfect addition to your collection.…

Julie, right you are. Vince nailed it. Without even realizing what I was doing, this is what is working so well for me. I'm putting my major effort into my Ruby Lane shop. Everything I do on V.V. and AVCOSA and my blog and FB is directing traffic to…

Hi Cheri I'm guessing you are questioning what is V V. Vintage Village. It is an online resource group for online sellers such as AVCOSA, only with a bit more facebook attitude. I'll post a link here so you can see what it is. http://vintagevillag…

Maggie That is very generous of you. The PGP board on e used to be a valued resource. Perhaps a separate group of volunteers here on AVCOSA could be a good resource. I'd be willing to offer my library and help whenever I could.

I just looked at your shop. You have beautiful items. Just my opinion, it is a bit high end. Yes, there are shoppers on Ruby Lane that will spend the money for these items, but in my short year and a half I have found you kind of have to prove your…

All of the posts so far are great. I've learned something from all of them. One of the reasons I joint AVCOSA was to help promote my online sales. I can write good descriptions, post good pictures, manage the sales, etc. However, for the life of me…

"Maximize my budget".....I started to respond last night Julie, but I was so tired, I started to ramble. I LOVE flea markets. If I had to pick my favorite way to shop for merch, it would be flea markets. They are diverse, there are bargains everywhe…

Today was a perfect example of what we are talking about in this discussion thread. If my vertigo can handle the jumping NING box, I'll continue. We went to 1 estate sale yesterday. They were firm on their prices. We looked, bought a few things and…

I can tell a story on this topic. Several years ago I bought a collection of Desert Rose Dinnerware (Franciscan Ware) At the time, I was only selling on ebay. Unknown to me, I had acquired in the collection a "rare" small pitcher. I did not bother t…

Shopping estate sales used to be our main source of merchandise. We moved to this area of Northern California about 10 years ago. It took almost a year to "learn the ropes". We took our time getting to know the liquidators. We watched how they price…

How Did You Hear About Us?
internet

This may be a bit rough. I am learning how to personalize my page. Here is a little bit about COBAYLEY.

Cobayley is a husband and wife team in their 60's. We have been in the Antiques and collectibles business for over 20 years. We used to travel and do a lot of shows and we kept 2 collective booths well stocked. In the late 1990's we found ebay and we converted to all auctions. We still do a show occasionally, but we really want to have a nice online shop. Ruby Lane is the most attractive and well organized website we have found.
I have always loved "old" stuff. Aunts and Uncles were avid antique collectors in the midwest when there were still plenty of antiques to be found at barn sales and tag sales. Early on in our marriage I walked into an antique store while the children were across the street at a movie. The shop owner and myself hit it off right away and I went to work part time. It was the most valuable education anyone could ever receive in the antiques and collectibles business. Not only did I get a hands on education, I was lucky enough to be taught by a very knowledgeable Antique Dealer.

We still love to travel and a couple of times a year we hit the road and wander all over the northwest corner of the United States. We cannot pass up a Antique Mall or Shop without at least taking a quick look

Hi Carolyn, not sure if here is where I post back a comment - but oh well, still learning. I see you sell at RubyLane. How have you found that place to sell on the internet. Do you get much traffic? Have you sold a lot over the past year? How are their fees? Sorry for so many questions, just curious. Paul

Hi Carolyn, thanks for the nice welcome! I have done a few ning pages if you need help on customizing your page. Also if you are looking for a great place to set up shop, you might want to check out ecrater.com. It's an easy set up store, your items are fed to google on a regular basis, uses google checkout and paypal, and it is 100% free. Let me know if you want more info.

Welcome to AVCOSA -- You have a nice mix of merch. in your RubyLane shop. I like your "About You" info there, too -- very friendly, and tells your history. You can add that kind of info to your AVCOSA page, too. Just click on the "Get Started" tab at the top.
