AVCOSA - Antiques, Vintage & Collectibles Online Sellers Assoc

AVCOSA is a trade association representing interests of antique, vintage sellers

I figure I have to go with the flow and open a Facebook account.

To me it has always been where my son's have socialized with friends and so I never thought of it as a business outlet, but based on info I just heard that it brings twice the amount of traffic than Google does to some sites and the fact that so many other dealers are now using it...well..... I guess the time has come for this ole dinosaur to avoid extinction ;)

my question is:

what is the best way to set up an account in terms of business?

is the feeling that one should have one account in one's personal name with business info also on it, so that the personal contacts will hopefully also become customers and spread the word? or is it better to keep personal and business accounts separate there?

My son seems to think the best way is to have a business page as well as a personal one, from the same account, and then link the 2.

Is this possible? Is this wise?

would appreciate input from those of you already using FB for business

thanks

I'd like to know, too. My daughter had me sign up for a personal Facebook account a few months ago and I just have my family and personal friends on it. I don't want just anybody seeing it. We had a meeting at work about a month ago on using Facebook for our company and I thought, boy, I could start a business Facebook for my online stores. But, like you, I don't know how it would work having the personal and business connected. I really don't want my business stuff mixed into my personal stuff.

I couldn't find any instructions or information on Facebook about the differences. Maybe, I will go check, again.

Thanks for bringing this subject up.

I actually just set this up! You can't have a business facebook account. Only an individual. As a business, you can have a "page" which is linked to your personal account. People would become "fans" of your page, but they would have no access to your personal account. To set it up, go to the logon screen, there is a little hyperlink at the bottom that says "Create a page for a celebrity, band or business" That will get you started in the right direction. You can now also link your Facebook to Twitter, so when you post to Facebook, it will show up on your Twitter blog.

If anyone wants to be a fan on my Facebook, I would really appreciate it. I am my only fan right now. How sad! To find me, just search for mimi's mill

great!! thanks so much Michelle :) that is what my son was suggesting I do to keep the biz and personal separate so I am so pleased to hear how simple it sounds.

I want to do this too - add a business page to my FB personal account. But, for the life of me I can't find the little hyperlink you referred to at the bottom of the page - that says create a page! I'm embarrassed how long I've been trying to find it. :)

I have wanted to do this also but have no idea where to begin. I already have a personal Face Book account that is tightly controlled to family and friends. Would love to have the business page. I feel like I need all the help I can get in this economy.

OK, good stuff! I started my FB business page - carolinabluelady. Marie and Michelle - I signed up as a fan for you guys. Marie - I can't believe how much you got done - looks good.

I guess I'm still trying to figure out how people will run across them. I'm going to connect it to my twitter. There is no way that I am going public with my personal facebook. I did search under "collectibles" and found about 300+ shops - that's a lot of searching. I'm wondering if it would be better to just do a different personal FB for the stores and make it public or would that just end up being the same thing. Can't figure out if this is really going to get much traffic.
